Methodology
- Each vessel seen inside a gateway's anchorage envelope is tracked across the reporting month; dwell is the span between its first and last observation while flagged as waiting.
- The friction score weights average dwell (60%) against the share of observed vessels that waited at all (40%), normalised to a 72-hour ceiling.
- Estimated daily burn applies a conservative $165 per waiting-vessel-hour proxy for the chargeable exposure created downstream of the delay.
- Gateways with fewer than three distinct vessels in the period are excluded.
